Johnson & Johnson Announces $5.5 Billion Talc Lawsuit Settlement Plan
New York: Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has announced a proposed settlement worth up to $5.5 billion to resolve tens of thousands of lawsuits alleging that its talc-based baby powder and other talc products caused ovarian cancer. The agreement marks one of the largest product liability settlements in U.S. corporate history and could bring an end to more than a decade of legal disputes.The proposed settlement covers approximately 76,000 existing claims related to ovarian cancer. According to the company, the agreement will become effective only if at least 95% of eligible claimants agree to participate. If approved, the settlement is expected to provide faster compensation than years of continued litigation.
